Balance Construction / Custom Closets
Custom Closets in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Port Charlotte & Punta Gorda
A closet with one rod and one shelf wastes most of its space. Balance Construction designs and installs custom closet systems for homeowners in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, and Punta Gorda, with drawers, adjustable shelving, double-hang and long-hang sections, and finishes that hold up in Florida humidity. We plan the layout around what you actually own, then install it as carefully as we install kitchen cabinets.

Closets often start as an add-on to a cabinet project; the services overview shows how the two fit together.
Closets We Design
- Walk-in closets. Full-wall systems with a mix of hanging, shelving, drawers, and an island or bench when the room allows.
- Reach-in closets. Standard bedroom closets reorganized with double-hang sections, shelf towers, and drawers so the space works twice as hard.
- Pantries and linen closets. Adjustable shelving, pull-outs, and baskets sized for what’s stored there.
- Laundry and mudroom storage. Cubbies, hooks, and cabinets that give everyone a spot.
Components and Finishes
Adjustable shelving, drawer stacks with soft-close glides, shoe shelving, tie and belt pull-outs, valet rods, and hampers, in melamine or wood-veneer finishes that resist moisture. We keep components off the floor where possible and use finishes that won’t warp in a humid bedroom closet.
How a Closet Project Works
- Measure and inventory. We measure the closet and take stock of what needs a home: long hang, short hang, folded items, shoes, bags.
- Layout. You get a plan showing where each section goes and how much of each type of storage you’ll have.
- Order and install. Components are ordered to the plan and installed level, secured to studs, and trimmed.
- Load-in. We walk the finished closet with you so every section is used the way it was planned.
Some of our favorite closet projects came from homeowners who first had us design the cabinets for a new build and then asked us to do the closets to match.
Closets in Southwest Florida Homes
Many closets in Cape Coral and Fort Myers homes are in exterior-wall bedrooms where humidity is highest. Material choice matters. We also see a lot of post-Ian rebuilds and new construction where the builder left a rod and shelf; those are the easiest closets to transform because the walls are clean and square.
What Affects the Cost
Closet size, the number of drawers and specialty components, finish, and whether the closet needs prep work like removing old wire shelving and patching walls. Your estimate lists each of these.
Custom Closet FAQs
What is the average cost of a custom closet? It depends on the closet size and how many drawers and components you choose. Drawers and specialty pull-outs move the number most. We price it in writing after measuring.
How is this different from a closet franchise? We’re a licensed building contractor, and the same people who plan the closet install it. Closets are one of five services we do, so we’re also the ones to call when the same house needs cabinets or trim.
How long does installation take? Reach-in closets are usually the quickest installs we do, and walk-ins take longer depending on the number of sections and drawers. Your estimate includes the schedule.
