Custom Cabinets & Built-Ins Beyond the Kitchen
Some of the best storage in a house isn’t in the kitchen. Balance Construction plans, supplies, and installs custom cabinets and built-ins for the rest of the home in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, and Punta Gorda: bathroom vanities, living-room and media walls, pantry cabinets, home-office storage, laundry rooms, and garage cabinets. Each piece is specified to the wall it’s going on and installed by us with the trim work that makes it look original to the house.

Rooms We Outfit
- Bathrooms. Vanities sized to the space, linen towers, and over-toilet storage in finishes that handle steam.
- Living rooms and family rooms. Media walls, bookcases, window seats, and built-ins around a fireplace or TV.
- Pantries. Floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets, pull-out shelves, and appliance garages that take the clutter off the counter.
- Home offices. Desk runs, file drawers, and upper cabinets planned around monitors, printers, and cords.
- Laundry rooms. Upper cabinets, folding shelves, and hamper pull-outs.
- Garages. Wall cabinets, workbench bases, and tall storage that keeps the floor clear.
Built-ins are one of our five services; see the services overview for how they fit with cabinets and closets.
How a Custom Piece Comes Together
- Walk the room. We look at the wall, the floor, outlets, vents, and what the cabinet has to hold.
- Plan the layout. Dimensions, door style, interior features, and finish are worked out with you.
- Specify and order. The cabinetry is built to those specifications by our supplier and delivered to the job.
- Install and trim. We set the cabinets level and plumb, scribe them to the wall, and add the crown, base, and fillers that make a built-in read as built-in.
If a kitchen is part of the project, that scope is covered under new kitchen cabinets; everything outside the kitchen is what you’ll find here.
Several of our repeat customers first hired us for a kitchen and came back for built-ins in the next room; that follow-on work is where a lot of these projects start.
Built for Florida Rooms
Bathrooms and laundry rooms are the wettest rooms in a Southwest Florida home, and garages here get hot and humid. We choose box construction and finishes for those conditions and keep cabinets off the slab in garages so they aren’t sitting in the moisture that comes through the floor.
What Affects the Cost
Size and number of cabinets, door style and material, interior hardware like drawers and pull-outs, and the amount of trim work to integrate the piece into the room. The estimate after the visit breaks these out.
Custom Cabinet FAQs
What is the average cost for custom cabinets? It depends on size, material, and features, so we don’t quote averages. After measuring the room, you get a written number for the cabinetry and the installation.
Is it cheaper to buy cabinets or have them built? Stock cabinets are cheaper when standard sizes fit the space. Custom pieces cost more but fit odd walls, tall ceilings, and specific uses. For many built-ins, a semi-custom line with custom trim lands in between.
Do you build the cabinets yourselves? We plan and specify the cabinetry, have it built to those specifications, and install and trim it ourselves. That keeps one company responsible for the fit and finish.
